The story behind this piece
The fresco cart by the dock sold shaved ice in syrups that glowed — hibiscus red, sea-blue, pink, purple, all of it melting faster than we could eat. These faceted candy crystals are that cart on a hot afternoon. Sweetness was cheap on the island; the colors were the luxury.
